Questions and answers
How much study time does the course require?
As a rough guide, it may take between 6 and 12 hours to complete the course,
depending on the individual's background and level of familiarity with the
subject matter of the 12 topics. The more advanced topics involving
mathematical formulae may need extra time if your maths is rusty!
How many FPA CPD accreditation points do I earn for successful
completion
The Financial Planning Association has awarded 4 CPD points for the
successful completion of this course.
What is the pass mark for the exam?
80%. This means you need to get at least 40 right out of the 50 questions.
What happens if I fail?
If you fail to reach the pass level, your results delivered online
will indicate which topics you need to revise before re-attempting the
exam.
How many times may I take the exam?
As many as you need to get a pass result.
How much does the course cost?
The course costs $180, including:
- access to all topic presentations
- ability to print off any topic complete with text and diagrams
- unlimited access to the online exam
- e-mail ask-the-trainer service from the presenter
When I try to start the course, I get a message saying I do not have the right browser. Most web pages work with older or "minority" bowsers: why not these?
The course uses web pages as the delivery method, but it is really a
custom-programmed web application running via the browser. Because the
dynamic features used are differently supported in the various browsers and
versions, we have focussed on the current generation of browsers, MS Internet
Explorer 5.x and Netscape 6. The course should also work with future releases of these browsers.
The course will work with MSIE 4 but Version 5 or 5.5 is recommended. The
course will not work with any prior version of Netscape.
You can download a current browser from the Microsoft or Netscape
website. However, as these are quite large downloads, an alternative is to
install from the CD provided with one of the many available PC magazines.
The dropdown menu of subtopics goes away before I've made my choice.
It is set to wait about 12 seconds, long enough in most circumstances.
If the menu closes before you’re ready, just click the button again to redisplay it.
Is there some way I can practise the exam and get a mark without my results being sent to FIIG?
Currently, no. We may decide to add this feature later. However, you are free to answer the exam questions on a practice basis, save your answers if you like (see the next question), then simply close the window without submitting. This will not give you a mark, but it may give you an idea of areas where you are less confident of the correct answers.
How can I record the answers I chose in the exam?
Print the form before submitting it.
